Annual Drill of Critical Computing Systems and Campus Network on 18th July 2015 (Saturday)

Please be informed that ICTO will perform the annual drill of critical computing systems and campus network on 18th July 2015 (Saturday).

This annual drill is a critical activity for ICTO to ensure continuous operation of critical computing systems in case of emergency. During the drill, some of the computing services will be interrupted or suspended. The schedule of the drill and the relevant services are as follows:

 

From 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

(CTB Building only) Short Suspension of Power Supply
The power supply of the whole CTB building, lift service will be suspended or affected when testing generator. Generator is a key to the data center reliability during power outage.

 

From 10:00 a.m. to 13:30 p.m.

In addition to the checking of Redundant Power Supply system and Signal Alert system at ICTO Data Center, drill on contingency plan for each critical computing system and virtual infrastructure will be performed. The following computing systems and services will be interrupted or suspended:

General Services
PC LAN (Home Directory H:, File Sharing N:, PC Applications G: and Network Printing Services for students and staff, WebShare, PersonalWeb, VOD, UM File Share)
WebCourse (UMMoodle, e-Portfolio, TLEX, Qualtrics)
Lotus Notes E-mail and Workflow services (including e-Bulletin, e-Procurement, e-Proposal, QMES Document Database and Web pages of Finance Office and Alumni and Development Office
SSL VPN
All Oracle Form, Discoverer and Report applications
Check-in/Out System
All web-based Information services/applications, e.g. Annual Achievement Report, Human Resource Management System, Sport Complex Facilities Booking Service, Event Management System, Continuing Education System, e-Channel, e-Form, e-Leave, Financial Information System, Locker Rental System, Publications Database, SI Web Services, UM Phone Book, etc
eFax service

From 2:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Drill on contingency plan and maintenance on campus network will be performed. The following computing systems and services will be interrupted or suspended:

The University Library systems and e-resources
Telephone system

 

All services will be resumed to normal once the jobs are completed. We thank you for your attention and apologize for any inconveniences caused.
